Money!
Yup, that's right, I do like getting paid for my work,
just like you. I've seen other caricature artists charging $40 or more for a live portrait
of one person, and that's just silly. It's hard to have fun when your wallet stings like
that.
I work in pencil with a blending stub for my black
and white work, and for the colored stuff, I fill using an airbrush. Sturdy and colorfast,
just right for framing. The portrait you get is on a heavy paper stock measuring
12"x16". And they look so good!
So why two sets of rates? Simple! When I work live, I
work fast. You have places to be, and I know you don't want to sit around for fifteen
minutes while I draw you. I just don't have the time to add everything I want. In my
studio, I'll put more detail into your portrait, layer more color and take more
time--usually four to five hours at least. You'll get better gags, more of a body and a
theme of some kind.
